Where Should You Place House Numbers on Your Home?
Where Should You Place House Numbers on Your Home?
Good house-number placement balances two goals: the address should be easy to notice, and the sign should look like it belongs with the architecture of the home. The right position will depend on your driveway, front entrance, exterior materials and sightlines from the street.
1. Garage door placement
A garage door can provide a large, uncluttered surface for a street-facing address sign. Choose an area that stays visually clear when the door is closed and does not compete with windows, handles or decorative hardware.
2. Beside the front door
Placing the address beside the entrance can create a clean, intentional look and works especially well when visitors approach the home on foot. Check the available wall or trim space before choosing the sign size.
3. Above or near the entrance
Some homes have a clear header, wall section or architectural panel near the front door. This can work well when the sign remains easy to see and is not hidden by porch roofs, plants or seasonal decorations.
4. Consider contrast
A sign is easier to notice when the lettering contrasts with the surface behind it. Use your product preview to compare the sign style against the colour and material of your home.
5. Check the sightline from the street
Stand where a driver, delivery person or visitor would normally approach and check whether trees, vehicles, columns or landscaping block the chosen location.
Choose the sign type for the location
Our Garage Door Sign is made from premium 6 mm acrylic and is designed as a strong street-facing feature. Our Front Door Sign uses layered acrylic or slate options for a more detailed entrance feature.
For help choosing between them, see our Garage Door vs. Front Door Address Signs comparison or visit the Complete Custom Sign Guide.
Before installation: if your municipality, condo corporation or homeowners association has specific address-display rules, check those requirements before finalizing the location.
